VFW Post 6988 in Trinity with its freshly paved parking lot.
By: Gene McLeod VFW Post 6899 Asst Quartermaster
The last phase of VFW Post 6899 Disaster Shelter Plan has been realized with the paving of the parking lot.
VFW Post 6899 is certified by the American Red Cross as a Disaster Shelter for Trinity County. We can provide comfortable shelter in times of disaster for at least 300 people. An on-site generator, showers and bathrooms, kitchen facilities, cots and other disaster-related supplies have been pre-positioned for emergencies at the Post on 400 West Caroline Street.
The VFW did it best but we was not ready for the influx of local and out of county refugees during Hurricane Rita in 2005. In 2006 we drafted a small disaster plan and took it to the County
Commissioners for consideration. God Bless the county commissioners who developed a better plan and brought it to fruition last week with the paving of the parking lot.
We appreciate all the hard work of our county commissioners but we want to recognize Trinity County Judge Doug Page and Precinct Two Commissioner Rich Chamberlain who were our contacts. Thank you.
There are some contractors we worked closely with that we want to recognize too, they are, KSA Engineers and Klotz Associates of Lufkin, Texas and CCC Blacktopping of Onalaska. Trinity County has an excellent disaster shelter ready for use.
The men and ladies of VFW Post 6899 sincerely appreciate everyone involved in the completion of this project.
TRINITY–A call of a naked woman knocking on doors led to the arrest of her meth dealer, according to the Trinity County Sheriff.
Jacob WalkerSheriff Woody Wallace said dispatch received a call around 6 a.m. of a naked woman beating on a door on French Road. Deputies responded but could not find anyone.
Wallace said a second call came an hour later and deputies responded again and found a naked woman sitting in a cedar tree. As they were coaxing her down, dispatchers received another call, this time of a naked man running around and knocking on doors in the same area.
Wallace said they were able to round up both naked people, who happened to be in a dating relationship.
"We got them dressed and finally got them to admit they had been on some dope," Wallace said. Wallace said he asked them who their meth dealer was.
"They said they didn't know his name, but they had been texting him," Wallace said. "I said, 'well, text him again.'"
Wallace said the couple texted their dealer again and set up another buy. Then Wallace sent two from Trinity police and an investigator to the house.
Around 2 p.m., Wallace said the dealer showed up and met the officers. They arrested Jacob Walker, 42, of Trinity. Wallace said the couple could have been arrested for public intoxication and indecent exposure, but because they were cooperative and no longer a danger, he let them off.
Walker is charged with second-degree delivery of a controlled substance.
"We have been developing information about Walker for some time now," said Trinity Police Chief Steven Jones. "This incident happened and we seized the opportunity to bust him.

GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity woman is in the hospital after the sheriff says she tried to jump out of a second-story window in the Trinity County Courthouse to escape custody during a hearing Tuesday morning.
Misty SizemoreSheriff Woody Wallace said Misty Mangum Sizemore, 34, was at court for a jail docket hearing on charges of robbery and possession of a controlled substance and went to the bathroom. Wallace said the next thing people heard was her yelling in pain outside.
Wallace said Sizemore had managed to jump out a second-story window but suffered back and leg injuries.
Sizemore was arrested in June after Trinity police say she tried to steal cosmetic items from the dollar store and scratched a man who was trying to keep her from leaving.
