GHS Class of 1972
We have received one submission to date for the "Where Are They Today?" section of our upcoming Smoke Signal newspaper. The 8th grade journalism class is working hard to produce a quality paper for our enjoyment. Advertising space is limited as Darlene Thompson Pyle, Class of 1950, Life Member L-527, has worked very hard to secure ads. The newly hired teachers have submitted a brief bio and a picture to the paper. Most of the Hall of Fame inductees have submitted their pictures and bios and the paper is coming together nicely. Copies of the Smoke Signal will be in the Groveton News during the week of Homecoming.

Our college pick of the week is Chase Brooks. Chase writes: "Hello, my name is Chase Brooks, and I recently finished my second semester at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. I am the recipient of the Mildred Barnett Smith Honorary Scholarship. I am currently enrolled in the Mustang CAT Think Big Program at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. I enjoyed my second semester of classes and learned new hydraulic skills that I was able to use in my second internship class when I returned to work in February. I will attend OSUIT for two years and I will graduate with an Associate's Degree in Diesel Mechanics. I plan on returning to the area to continue working at the Lufkin Mustang CAT store.
I am thankful that the Groveton Ex-Students Association has scholarships available to students to help them with the financial burden of college.
This money will help me to attain my goal of becoming a diesel mechanic. Sincerely, Chase Brooks"
This is a closed group so if your name is not on the current roster, you will need to also send a message to Martha Harrison Mericle stating the time you or your spouse attended GHS.
Current students or parents of students are not considered Ex-Students. We also accept former teaching staff as members. Regular membership to the Association is $10 bi-annually or $50 Lifetime. Spouses are eligible to become members also.
Membership monies are used to fund the operating expenses of the organization.
